OVERVIEW

The African Innovation Academy (AIA) is a flagship initiative by African Innovation Solutions (AIS), modeled on Romania’s successful iXperiment program. Officially launched on November 20, 2024, the program aims to empower South African high school students by providing them with tools to solve societal, economic, and environmental challenges through entrepreneurship and leadership training.

Key Features:

  • Structured Curriculum: A four-month accelerator program comprising four phases—Ideate, Innovate, Initiate, and Iterate.
  • Mentorship and Workshops: Students work with mentors and attend workshops led by industry leaders.
  • Inclusivity: Open to students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring broad participation and impact.
  • Practical Experience: Students develop Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), test their ideas, and pitch to montorsduring a final competition.

Objective: To bridge the gap between education and real-world application, preparing students to become future leaders, innovators, and change-makers while fostering economic and social growth in their communities.

 

AIA Requirements

  • Residency: Applicants must reside in Cape Town, South Africa.

  • School Enrollment: Students must be actively attending a recognized high school within the Cape Town area.

  • Parental or Guardian Consent: For applicants under 18 years of age, a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian is required to participate in the program.

  • Grade Level: Open to students currently enrolled in Grades 9 through 11.
  • Commitment: Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to fully engage in the program’s activities and adhere to its schedule.
  • Interest in Entrepreneurship and Leadership: A genuine interest in developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills is essential.
